Project Idea: Creek Stories

The founder of the Creek language program at OU, Margaret Mauldin, is also the author of one of the Creek story collections that you can read online!

Research Tip: Earnest Gouge was a Creek storyteller, and you can find this collection of his stories online: Totkv Mocvse / New Fire: Creek Folktales by Earnest Gouge, edited and translated by Jack B. Martin, Margaret McKane Mauldin, and Juanita McGirt. You can also find a big collection of Creek stories in this book: Myths and Tales of the Southeastern Indians by John R. Swanton. For background information about the Creek (Muscogee) people and culture, see Wikipedia.
