Kintaro and the Carp
The Public Domain Review shared this lovely article: Sketches by Yoshitoshi (1882), and the one that caught my attention was this one: KintarÅ Riding the Carp.
Kintaro is one of the heroes in the Japan unit in the UnTextbook with stories by Yei Theodora Ozaki. She tells only a short version of the Kintaro cycle, but you can find out more at Wikipedia, including another wonderful picture of the battle with the carp by Utagawa Kuniyoshi:
