Weeks 12-13

During Weeks 12 and 13, you will be choosing from BRITISH and CELTIC reading units. To get a sense of some of the stories that are coming, here's a random image from one of the units (reload to see more). Then, scroll down to learn more about all the options. If you want to carry on with more British/Celtic reading in Week 14, you can do that also, or you can move on to the continental European options.

Hero Tales
Beowulf: The fearless warrior battles Grendel, Grendel's mother, and a fire-breathing dragon.
King Arthur: Stories of Arthur along with tales of his knights and their quest for the Holy Grail.
Robin Hood: With Robin, Little John, the Sheriff, King Richard, and also a ballad of Maid Marian.

English Tales
English Tales: Wide-ranging stories the comedy of Three Little Pigs to the tragedy of Binnorie.
More English Tales: Cinderella stories like Catskin and Rushen Coatie, the Pied Piper, and more.
Aesop's Fables: Aesop's fables in English poetry and prose from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
Nursery Rhymes: All the ones you might remember from your own childhood, plus many more.

Celtic Tales
Celtic Tales: Fairies, leprechauns, ghosts, and goblins, along with a Celtic version of "Snow White."
More Celtic Tales: More Celtic stories, including the ancient myth of the Children of Lir.
Welsh (Emerson): These folktales are written just as they were told by Welsh storytellers in 1892.
Welsh (Thomas): A collection of Welsh tales with King Arthur, fairies, magic, and monsters.
Mabinogion: The Welsh legend of Pwyll and Rhiannon, plus tales and songs of Taliesin the bard.

Literary Works:
Canterbury Tales: Including comedy, romance, deceit, an animal fable, and a story about the devil.
Faerie Queene: Britomart disguises herself as a knight to seek the lover she saw in Merlin's mirror.
Alice in Wonderland: Featuring the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, and the Cheshire Cat.
Looking-Glass: More of Alice, including Tweedledee and Tweedledum, and Humpty Dumpty.
